Title
Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date
23 August 1846
Writer
Russell, John, Lord
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Bulwer's dispatches seem to show that there is no hope of the marriage of Don Enrique. Russell trusts Queen Victoria will be able to delay her return from Osborne, staying there for the Prince's birthday. Russell will transmit the Speech from the Throne tomorrow. To mention France without any special occasion would seem unfriendly to Queen Victoria's other Allies. It might awaken suspicion that cordial relations, so frequently affirmed, were not so real in substance.
