TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date13 July 1848
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria sends to Russell Colonel Phipps's report of Prince Albert's reception (at York). Queen Victoria wishes to know from Russell if the King and Queen of France and Princes and Princesses ask to visit her at Osborne, there would be any objection. Her Majesty tells Russell she sees no possible objection to the Duc de Nemours fetching or bringing the Duchesse. He is the Queen's cousin, and consequently in a different position to the others. It is but a morning visit. Queen Victoria says if it should arise that she did not go to Ireland, she could go to Balmoral without shocking the Irish very much. Her Majesty regrets that the measure was given up, and asks Russell if it was unavoidable [regarding Navigation Laws]. Her Majesty wishes to know when the Session will end.
