DescriptionLord Bessborough wishes to place Sir Thomas Esmonde and Mr Tighe on the Privy Council in Ireland. He wished also to name Lord George Hill, who declined on the plea of distant residence. Russell names Sir George Arthur from Bombay. Dr Hawtrey (Head Master of Eton), impressed with the evils of Montem, is against its continuance. Well if, instead, Queen Victoria would go to the Boats once a year, as the late King was in the habit of doing. The Chancellor of the Exchequer also thinks it well to discontinue Montem. Lord Morpeth says, regulate it. Russell advises Queen Victoria not to interfere against Eton authorities.
