Description
Lord Ebrington elected by very large majority. Macaulay's and Gibson Craig's return confidently expected. Russell is always pleased if Queen Victoria gives her candid opinion, but cannot agree that Father Mathew's Temperance preaching has encouraged superstition. He has steered clear of party politics. Russell names Dundas as Solicitor General, in succession to Jervis, now Attorney General, and asks for Queen Victoria's candid opinion on all questions.
