TitleDraft letter from Prince Albert to Lord John Russell
Date17 October 1849
WriterAlbert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord; Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
DescriptionDraft letter from Prince Albert to Lord John Russell reporting that he has already written to Colonel Grey, offering him the position of Personal Secretary. The Prince states that it would be unfair to ask Grey to give up his position as Equerry to Queen Victoria and that it would be an advantage to have someone work in both households, as there is already overlap between the two. He is sorry to hear that Romilly has left the army and mentions that the only Groom-in-Waiting that would be fit for the position of Equerry is Colonel Hood, however he is of the 'wrong politics'. He states that they will further discuss the matter the next time Russell is at Windsor.
