Description | The correspondence mainly dates from October 1843 to December 1844, but also contains two earlier documents dating from August 1841 and June 1842. Subjects covered include affairs in Ireland and Daniel O'Connell's trial, the governance of Canada, the Tahiti dispute, the independence of Texas, the suppression of the slave trade, visits to England by European dignitaries and royalty including the Comte de Chambord and Louis Philippe King of the French, the death of Prince Albert's father (Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), the birth of Prince Alfred, military decorations and government matters including the Factory Act. Also included is a variety of correspondence regarding Royal Household and military appointments. |
